🧠 The Effects of Psilocybin Mushrooms
Mushrooms have a lot more to offer than just making your face melt into a puddle while looking into a mirror...

Explore the World of Plant Medicine and Psychedelics. A Weekly Digest of Exclusive Stories, Insights, and Research.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Guide ⚡️
Today’s newsletter takes about 5 minutes to read—so if you’ve only got 60 seconds, here’s what you need to know:
New psilocybin insights. Growing research points to short-term mood shifts and lasting brain and mood changes when support and therapy are part of the process.
Psilocybin vs. psilocybin-assisted therapy. The medicine can open a door, but the biggest gains often come from prep, safe set/setting, and guided integration, not the dose alone.
Next steps. If you’re interested in pursuing psilocybin, check your laws, look for experienced and trained providers, and practice structured pre/post-integration practices.
The Webdelics Podcast. Scott Mason talks with Maggie Kirkwood about how psilocybin helped her overcome her daily drinking habits to achieve sobriety and deep healing.

📜 The “Must Read” For The Week
The Effects of Psilocybin Mushrooms 🍄
Psilocybin (AKA “magic mushrooms”) is a classic psychedelic that can change how you see, feel, and think, with the effects often lasting for hours depending on the dose and set/setting…
👉️ Here’s the rundown of what we know and what to expect with psilocybin mushrooms…
💫 What To Expect (Based on Studies & Subjective Experiences in Trials)
Colors can look brighter / Music can feel deeper / Time can feel slow or fast.
You may “see” patterns with your eyes closed.
Some people can even taste colors or “see” sounds (this is called synesthesia).
New ideas may come easier / Creativity can be enhanced.
Old memories can feel strong.
Big feelings, good or hard.
Support, music, and a calm place can help ease people into various states.
You may feel more connected to people and nature.
The “me” feeling can soften or even fade for a while (ego dissolution).
Many rate this as very meaningful, and often, one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.
🪜 Stages of A Psilocybin Experience
Duration/Time - Lasts about 4–7 hours in duration; Onset is 10–60 minutes; Peaks around 90–120 minutes.
Dose - Dosing is tricky, but a “macrodose” is considered anything between 1-5g of dried mushrooms
The Importance of Set and Setting - Your mindset, support, and space shape the experience, and thus, the outcomes.
🔬 What the Research Supports
🦺 Safety Should Always Come First
It’s always best to go into an experience with the right mindset, a trusted guide or clinician, and a safe setting.
Check health history and medicines with a professional before considering psilocybin, even for spiritual endeavors.
Laws vary by place. Follow your local rules!
