📔 Psychedelics 101: Terms Everyone Should Know
Trip Sitter 🧘♂️
A trip sitter is a sober, trusted person who stays with you during a psychedelic journey to help ensure emotional and physical safety.
They don’t guide or interfere—they simply hold space, provide reassurance, and help if things get overwhelming.
Trip sitters are especially important for first-time users or high-dose experiences, where emotions or visuals can become intense.
Why it matters: Having a calm, grounded sitter can make the difference between a healing journey and one that feels unsafe or disorienting.
🛑 Take Note: Choose someone you trust, who can stay sober and supportive the entire time. Always set clear expectations ahead of the journey. It’s best to have this person be trained in psychotherapy or psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Is MDMA Addictive? Exploring the Truth Behind the Headlines
MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine), often called “ecstasy” or “Molly,” is a synthetic compound known for its powerful effects on mood, empathy, and connection.
Originally synthesized in 1912, it rose to fame in the rave scene but has since become a promising tool in psychedelic-assisted therapy—especially for treating PTSD.
Recent clinical trials have shown that when used in therapeutic settings, MDMA can help individuals process trauma by enhancing emotional openness and reducing fear.
In fact, the FDA has granted MDMA-assisted therapy breakthrough therapy status, and organizations like MAPS have submitted a New Drug Application to bring this treatment to the mainstream.
But one question remains: Is MDMA addictive?
🔬 Understanding MDMA's Effects and Risks
MDMA belongs to a class of substances called entactogens, which promote emotional openness and empathy.
Unlike classic psychedelics like LSD or psilocybin, MDMA primarily increases serotonin, along with dopamine and norepinephrine.
This neurochemical surge produces euphoric and bonding sensations—but it also comes with risks…
In recreational settings, people may chase these feel-good effects, leading to overuse and excessive chasing of higher levels of euphoria...
Although MDMA is not chemically addictive like opioids or alcohol, it can create psychological dependence—especially when used frequently or without intention.
🔍️ Putting The Addiction Potential into Context
Research shows that in clinical settings, where MDMA is used in limited sessions under medical supervision, the potential for abuse is low…
However, recreational users who take MDMA repeatedly may experience tolerance, requiring higher doses for the same effects.
This can deplete serotonin levels, increase risks like overheating and dehydration, and reduce the drug’s positive impact over periods of time.
Chronic or excessive use has also been linked to sleep disturbances, mood issues, and neurotoxicity, though most casual users report infrequent use (1–2 times per year).
🦺 Responsible Use and Harm Reduction
While MDMA has a low potential for chemical addiction, harm reduction is essential—especially outside clinical settings.
This often looks like the following:
Testing for purity
Limiting use to no more than 2–3 times per month
Taking breaks in hot environments
Balancing water intake to prevent dehydration or over hydration
Using in a safe setting
For those exploring MDMA therapeutically or recreationally, education and context matter… Especially when it comes to these unregulated substances.
Understanding both the benefits and risks of MDMA is key to making informed, safe decisions.
Don’t make assumptions!
Education will always give you the knowledge and tools to help you take ownership of your health choices.
